Global perception of Pakistan has shifted dramatically following its role in brokering a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, according to a new report by Ipsos.

The report shows that international sentiment, which was nearly 90% negative in late March, turned more than 70% positive by April 8 after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a 14-day ceasefire between the two countries. The change reflects a significant turnaround in how Pakistan is viewed on the global stage.

Earlier reactions had been largely critical, with concerns focused on Pakistan’s domestic stability, regional tensions, and doubts about its ability to remain neutral while engaging with both Washington and Tehran. Negative sentiment was particularly strong in countries like the United States and India, as well as within Pakistan itself.

However, the ceasefire announcement marked a turning point. Social media platforms saw a surge in positive engagement, including trending hashtags such as #ThankYouPakistan, with users crediting Islamabad for helping to prevent a wider conflict.

The report highlights increased international praise for the coordination between Prime Minister Sharif and Asim Munir, as well as growing optimism that diplomatic progress could stabilise global markets. Many observers expressed hope that easing tensions could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and help mitigate energy supply disruptions.

Interestingly, positive sentiment extended even to traditionally critical audiences, where some voices acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.

As talks continue in Islamabad, analysts say Pakistan’s evolving image as a key mediator highlights its increasing relevance in global diplomacy during a period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty.
